DESCRIPTION:The Key to See: Intro to Tree ID\nAges 16+ \nSaturday\, April 4\, 2026  |  10:00 AM- 12:30 PM \n  \nCost: $65 per participant \nENROLL IN The Key to See HERE \n  \nAbout this Workshop\nLearning the necessary skills to identify trees in the landscape can deepen your understanding and appreciation of the natural world. This class will include a lecture component tackling the key identification features of coniferous trees\, followed by an outdoor walk where students can test their knowledge in the field using different methods to identify some major trees in the arboretum’s landscape. This is an introductory class. Participants should dress appropriately for the outdoor component. This event is rain or shine. \n  \nAbout the Instructor\nJenna Zier is the Formal Garden Curator at Bayard Cutting Arboretum. She holds an MPS from the School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University and is an ISA Certified Arborist. \n  \n\n1. DESCRIPTION:Plant Your Plot: Spring Break Program\nAges 10-14 \nSaturday\, April 11\, 2026  |  9:30 AM- 12:30 PM \n  \nCost: $25 per participant \nENROLL IN Plan Your Plot HERE \n  \nAbout this Workshop\nArt imitates life\, and so do video games! Many popular video games utilize gardening and farming as a component of gameplay. In this program\, we will disconnect from the digital world and connect to a real-life farming adventure. \nParticipants can expect to learn how to plan a garden at home using the grid method\, practice sowing seeds\, and tour a real farm. On this adventure\, our heroes will meet farmers\, feed chickens\, and help plant a vegetable garden bed. \nThis program is best intended for ages 10-14 and is a drop-off\,f optional program. Students are asked to bring a bagged lunch and dress appropriate for the weather as there are both indoor and outdoor portions to the workshop. \n  \n\n1. DESCRIPTION:Scouting America: Forestry Merit Badge\nSaturday\, April 18\, 2026  |  9:30 AM- 1:30 PM \nAges 11-17 \n  \nCost: $30 per participant \nENROLL IN Forestry MERIT BADGE HERE \nAbout the Workshop\nBayard Cutting Arboretum welcomes Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) to complete the requirements needed to earn their Forestry Merit Badge. \nScouts will explore the remarkable complexity of a forest and identify many species of trees and plants and the roles they play in a forest’s life cycle. They will also discover some of the resources forests provide to humans and come to understand that people have a very large part to play in sustaining the health of forests. \nScouts are asked to wear Class B attire\, bring a bagged lunch\, a field journal\, and a blue card signed by their Scoutmaster. It is also recommended that scouts review requirements 3\, 4\, and 7 ahead of the program as to contribute to our discussion. \n  \n\n1.
