It is right near the Dahlia Garden.

DESCRIPTION:Set in Stone: Hypertufa Planters\nSaturday\, June 8\, 2024 | 9:30-11:00 AM \nAdults (Ages 15+) \nCost: $45 per person \nREGISTER FOR THE HYPERTUFA PLANTERS WORKSHOP (SOLD OUT) \n  \nAbout the Workshop\nWhat’s all the hype about hypertufa? Hypertufa is a blend of various materials bonded with cement which creates a porous\, limestone-like material. Gardeners love it because it is relatively lightweight\, durable\, and has a rustic charm when compared to costly planters you may find in a garden center. Certain species of plants benefit from the additional drainage and the protection hypertufa offers making it a great choice for alpine and herb gardens. \nIn this workshop\, we will cover the materials and processes used to create hypertufa at home. each participant will receive the supplies to create one large or two small planters\, and our Horticulture Coordinator will provide alpine plant recommendations; Giving you the knowledge\, tools\, and resources to create endless possibilities for your home or garden. \n  \nDue to hypertufa’s curing process\, participants will return home with their projects wrapped in plastic and additional information on how to properly prepare their project for use. \n  \nOutcomes\n● Understand how to safely replicate these techniques for other projects. \n● Become acquainted with a variety of alpine plant species for use in rock gardens. \n● Create a unique\, lightweight\, and durable decoration for your home or garden. \n  \n*Fees cannot be refunded for participant cancellation or any other reason. In the event of extreme weather\, class location may be moved indoors or a weather-related make-up date will be held for no additional cost to the registrant. \n**Transactions will be processed through the Natural Heritage Trust as a donation on behalf of Bayard Cutting Arboretum.

Jungle Bob\, Long Island’s own adventurer and veteran traveler\, has explored tropical rainforests over 4 dozen times. Adults and kids alike are treated to an interactive program getting up close and personal with awesome animals. \nWeaving stories of his travels Jungle Bob dispels some of the myths surrounding some of nature’s least understood creatures\, educating while entertaining crowds of all ages. This event is family-friendly. Humanity has been fascinated with color and practicing the process of extracting dye from plants for millennia. This workshop will introduce the historical and traditional plant dye techniques; Utilizing common household\, locally sourced\, and imported plant materials to create a natural spectrum of colors. \nParticipants will have an opportunity to work side by side with an expert\, gain hands-on experience\, and receive instruction on how to properly recreate this process at home. Additionally\, any samples created can be taken home by the participants. This workshop is presented by Dr. Rosa M. Gambier\, Professor of Biology.
