If this is your first show\, expect to see dahlia blooms that dazzle and surprise. All the flowers you will see on the show tables are different forms and colors of dahlias\, from the very small to the large dinner plate size. The top winning dahlias are in the “Court of Honor”\, these are the dahlias the judges determined are the best in this competition. Growers come from all over the East Coast to compete for the top prize of “King of Show”. The Court of Honor is located under the large Long Island display and includes single dahlias and basket arrangements. Thank you to all the growers who brought their dahlias to our show. We appreciate all the hard work and expertise it took to compete. A show such as ours comes together by the efforts of our dedicated members\, who join together and devote their valuable time and hard work to make it all happen. LIDS wants to sincerely thank everyone who helped with the show. Your work and dedication bring great joy to others\, some who have never seen such a display of dahlias before. \n  \n  \nOpen to all Photographers\nRegistration is open Thursday\, August 29\, 2024\, 12:00 – 5:00 PM and Friday\, August 30\, 2024\, 12:00 – 7:00 PM \n\nBeginner / Novice – Has not won a ribbon at prior show\nAmateur / Advanced – Experienced photographer\nProfessional – Self promoting or income from photography\n\n\nClasses of Photographs\n\nDahlia Portrait: A single dahlia that includes the entire bloom with all petals showing\nTwo or More Dahlias in Full Bloom: May be the same or different variety\nMacro / Artistic Impression: This may be an enhanced or altered image. Extensive use of advanced software applications (e.g. Photoshop) is not permitted in Beginner level\nDahlias with Children or Insects: Dahlia bloom must be the focus\n\nBasic editing such as cropping\, and brightness\, contrast\, and color adjustment may be used in any class. \n\nRules\n\nDahlias must be the focus of the picture\nPhotograph must be entered in the correct Class (see below)\nExhibitor must have taken the photograph since the last show (9/2023)\nExhibitor may submit up to two photographs per Class\nPhoto must be displayed using a matte frame\, matte board or foam board – NO GLASS\nPhoto may be displayed with or without a border\nPhoto must be a minimum of 8” X 10”\nCompleted entry may not exceed 11” X 14” including frame\nEach entry must have the following information on the back:\n– exhibitor’s name\n– email and/or phone number\n– exhibitors experience level (Beginner\, Amateur\, Professional)\n– class of photos (1 – 4)\n– arrow indicating the top of the photo\nNo names\, initials\, or titles should be visible from the front of the entry\nFailure to follow the rules will result in disqualification\n\n  \nThe Long Island Dahlia Society assumes no responsibility for any loss\, theft\, or damage to any entry. Each class in this series is split into three parts; first storytime with a social-emotional theme\, followed by a mindfulness practice such as yoga or breathing techniques\, and lastly a fun activity that incorporates elements from the surrounding arboretum environment. \nParents are required to remain with children for the duration of the class. This series is best intended for ages 2-7 and is a rain-or-shine event. It is always wise to dress for a mess! \n  \nEducational Outcomes:\n● Practice mindfulness tools to improve emotional regulation skills. \n● Develop the ability to process and integrate sensory information through play. \n● Foster a deeper appreciation and connection to the changing seasons. \n  \n\n\nFees cannot be refunded for participant cancellation or any other reason. Each class in this series is split into three parts; first storytime with a social-emotional theme\, followed by a mindfulness practice such as yoga or breathing techniques\, and lastly a fun activity that incorporates elements from the surrounding arboretum environment. \nParents are required to remain with children for the duration of the class. This series is best intended for ages 2-7 and is a rain-or-shine event. It is always wise to dress for a mess! \n  \nEducational Outcomes:\n● Practice mindfulness tools to improve emotional regulation skills. \n● Develop the ability to process and integrate sensory information through play. \n● Foster a deeper appreciation and connection to the changing seasons. \n  \n\n\nFees cannot be refunded for participant cancellation or any other reason. In the event of extreme weather\, class location may be moved indoors or a weather-related make-up date will be scheduled for no additional cost to the registrant.\nTransactions will be processed through the Natural Heritage Trust as a donation on behalf of Bayard Cutting Arboretum.\nFor any additional questions\, contact our Education Coordinator K.T.
