About the Workshop

Bayard Cutting Arboretum welcomes Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) to complete the requirements needed to earn their Soil and Water Conservation Merit Badge.

Scouts will explore topics such as erosion, watersheds, aquifers, water pollution, and water treatment. They will also learn about the importance of plants in soil and water conservation.

Scouts are asked to wear Class B attire, bring a bagged lunch, a field journal, a pen, and a blue card signed by their Scoutmaster. It is also recommended that Scouts review requirements 1, 2a-c, 5a, and 6a-c ahead of the program as to contribute to our discussion.

Bayard Cutting Arboretum welcomes Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) to complete the requirements needed to earn their Forestry Merit Badge.

 

Scouts will explore the remarkable complexity of a forest and identify many species of trees and plants and the roles they play in a forest’s life cycle. They will also discover

some of the resources forests provide to humans and come to understand that people have a very large part to play in sustaining the health of forests.

 

Scouts are asked to wear Class B attire, and bring a bagged lunch, field journal, and a blue card signed by their Scoutmaster. It is also recommended that scouts review requirements 3, 4, and 7 ahead of the program to contribute to our discussion.
