About Forest School

Join us this Winter Season for a 6-week series in which we will explore the Arboretum, collecting items to create very special arts and crafts projects. This program includes both indoor and outdoor portions. In this program, caregivers can expect their children to practice newly emerging motor skills, develop social skills through both imaginative and cooperative play, and foster a deeper sense of connection to nature and the changing seasons.

This class is best intended for ages 2-7. Caregivers are required to remain with children for the duration of the class.

About the workshop

Join us at Bayard Cutting Arboretum for an 8-week Early Childhood Education program. This series will emphasize the changing of seasons from Winter into Spring. Children will have the experience of seeing the ground thaw, flower buds, and animals come out to play.

Each class is split into three parts; an introductory literacy lesson, followed by an engaging nature walk and lastly a fun activity that incorporates elements from the environment.

Parents are required to remain with children for the duration of the class. This series is best intended for ages 2-7 and is an indoor/outdoor hybrid. It is always wise to dress for a mess!

 

Educational Outcomes:

Practice foundational literacy skills such as letter recognition and phonetics.

Develop the ability to process and integrate sensory information through play.

● Foster a deeper appreciation and connection to the changing seasons.

 


  1. Fees cannot be refunded for participant cancellation or any other reason. In the event of extreme weather, class location may be moved indoors or a weather-related make-up date will be scheduled for no additional cost to the registrant.
  2. Transactions will be processed through the Natural Heritage Trust as a donation on behalf of Bayard Cutting Arboretum.

Each class in this series is split into three parts; first storytime with a social-emotional theme, followed by a mindfulness practice such as yoga or breathing techniques, and lastly a fun activity that incorporates elements from the surrounding arboretum environment.

Parents are required to remain with children for the duration of the class. This series is best intended for ages 2-7 and is a rain-or-shine event. It is always wise to dress for a mess!
