Dwarf Hinoki Cypress
Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Maureen'
This low maintenance needled evergreen grows well in medium moisture, well-drained soils in part shade to full sun.
Native to Japan, it can grow anywhere from 50-75’ tall. With aromatic foliage when crushed, it features dark green scale-like leaves with an underside of white markings.
Susceptible to juniper blight, root rot, and pests such as bagworms but other than that no serious insect or disease problems.
Dwarf varieties such as this one are planted together as hedges, screens, and used as accents in rock gardens.
This Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Maureen’ was donated by Ed Rezek and named after his wife.
